Tens of thousands of students from all around the world apply for higher educational studies in Hungary each year. The number of Stipendium Hungaricum applicants is continuously increasing, and currently there are over 12.000 Stipendium Hungaricum students studying in Hungary. 

Stipendium Hungaricum, the Hungarian Government’s most prestigious higher education scholarship programme, offers a wide range of courses for high-achieving international students with an excellent academic track record. The scholarship aims to support the internationalisation of Hungarian higher education and its constant development, strengthen the international relations of the academic and research community, and promote the good reputation and competitiveness of Hungarian higher education worldwide.

The programme, founded by the Hungarian Government in 2013, is supervised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and managed by the Tempus Public Foundation.

The programme is based on bilateral educational cooperation agreements signed between the Hungary and the governments of the sending countries/territories . Currently over 90 Sending Partners are engaged in the programme throughout 5 different continents, attracting more than 5000 international students each year.  Applicants are offered more than 600 full degree programmes, covering all higher education fields at all degree levels, including part-time and doctoral programmes.

Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program allows students from around the world to study in Hungary. It provides scholarships for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in various subjects. Run by the Tempus Public Foundation, it is open to students from over 70 countries. The scholarship covers full tuition fees and gives non-degree, bachelor’s, master’s, and one-tier master’s students HUF 43,700 per month for living expenses in Hungary for 12 months each year until their studies are finished. Students also get free dormitory accommodation or a monthly allowance of HUF 40,000 for housing costs. Additionally, it includes health care services as per Hungarian law and extra medical insurance up to HUF 65,000 per person per year.

Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship

It offers scholarships to people from Hungarian diaspora communities living outside the European Union, Serbia, or the Zakarpattia Oblast of Ukraine. To apply, you must be a citizen of one of the countries involved in the program. Getting a Diaspora Recommendation Letter from a Hungarian diaspora group, embassy, or consulate is necessary before applying. It's best to reach out to these organizations or diplomatic missions 1 or 2 months before the application deadline
